What I do

Every commission starts with a conversation and ends with something made entirely by hand. These are the things I am asked for most, though if your idea sits between them, or nowhere near them, do ask anyway.

Bespoke by definition

Nothing here is off the shelf. Layouts are drawn to your words, colours are mixed to your palette and materials are chosen for where the piece will live, whether that is an envelope crossing the country or a wall that has to survive a school corridor.

I work in traditional pointed pen calligraphy, modern brush lettering, acrylic and specialist sign paints, and I am happy to advise on which suits your project before you commit to anything.

One piece of work sits slightly apart from the four. Hand painted Christmas windows are booked from early autumn and busy enough to have a page of their own.

How a commission works

Most projects follow the same three steps, whether it is fifty place cards or a wall the length of a corridor.

• We talk. Tell me what you have in mind, roughly when you need it and any budget you are working to. I will tell you honestly whether I am the right person for it.
• I design. You get hand drawn concepts to react to, with the layout, lettering styles and colours set out clearly before any final work begins.
• I make it. The finished piece is created by hand, photographed and either delivered, posted or painted on site.

Timings vary with the season. Wedding work is usually booked six to nine months ahead and murals need two to four weeks from sign off, so the earlier you get in touch the better.
